Curly Lipstick plant
This plant is made popular by its scarlet coloured flowers. It is easy to learn why this plant is called by its name.
Bright indirect light.
Ideal temperatures for this plant is between 23 and 29 degrees celsius. However, in the colder months it can tolerate up to 16 degrees. But if it is exposed to 10 degrees and lower, it will cause tissue damage in the plant.
Water only when the kokedama is light and dry. Overwatering causes the roots to rot and it is fairly hard for the plant to recover.
Water every 1-2 weeks in the warmer months (in summer check weekly especially in warmer days and may need watering more often) and 2-3 weeks in winter. Misting a few times weekly also helps increase the humidity around the plant.
Also, use aged water. Aged water is tap water that has been left sitting in an open container for at least 24 hours. Letting it sit allows the chlorine to dissipate. Water the plant with aged water when the top of the potting mix begins to dry. Pour the water evenly over the soil until it begins to drain from the bottom of the container.
- To make aged water, simply fill an empty milk jug or watering can a few days before the lipstick plant needs to be watered. Then fill the container again right away after watering the plant. This way, you will always have aged water ready for the plant.
