Also known as hairy stemmed rhipsalis, where the stems look like they have hairs and they grow like shrubs. Perfect for kokedamas as they grow, it make it appear like a head with dreadlocks!

LIGHT

Bright indirect sunlight. Exposure to direct afternoon sun can burn the leaves.

WATER

Water only when the kokedama is light but not quite dry. Overwatering causes the roots to rot and it is fairly hard for the plant to recover. Do not wait for the kokedama to be totally dry as this rhipsalis would like to have a bit of moisture in its poting mix.

Water every 2 weeks in the warmer months (in summer check weekly especially in warmer days and may need watering weekly) and monthly in winter.

HOW TO WATER?

Submerge the whole ball in a bowl, bucket or sink up to the top of the ball. While it is light and dry, you may need to hold it down until the bubbles disappear. Then let it sit in water for 10 - 15 minutes. Take it out of the water and let drip dry.

HUMIDITY

It likes to be on the humid side at least 18 degrees centigrade in temperature. Spray the rhipsalis every now and again to raise the moisture in your house.

FERTILISER, PLANT FOOD, SOIL CONDITIONER

Fertilise monthly in spring and summer to encourage growth and NONE in winter. In the colder months, this plant generally hibernates. Therefore feeding with fertiliser won’t make it do much.

Soil conditioners such as Seasol, is also good to use during the growth season. Therefore, using it fortnightly when you water the kokedama is also good it.
